A PERMANENT TRAVELLING PEOPLES’ ASSEMBLY FOR EUROPE
About this assembly
The Democratic Odyssey demonstrated that a travelling Peoples’ Assembly for Europe is possible. Now, help us make it permanent!
We believe that we need to rethink democracy in Europe and beyond.
We believe that people must be at the centre of this story.
We believe that democracy is a collective act of care.
We believe that crises need to be managed democratically
We showed: It can be done.
You can now help us make this success story permanent by
joining this European journey for a permanent travelling Peoples’ Assembly. (External link)
A permanent travelling Peoples’ Assembly for Europe can complement the current institutions and connect them with what is happening on the ground in our daily lives, as well as our hopes for the future.
- A shared democratic space where regular people can come together, listen to each other, agree on their visions for the future of Europe.
- A democratic space that engages with other democratic spaces, from universities to civil society, to museums and theatres, media, clubs and other assemblies and develops collective strategies for addressing crisis and change.
We have done the impossible and gathered people in Athens, Florence, Vienna and online.
Athens, September 2024
Florence, February 2025
Vienna, May 2025
What we learned is clear: when we meet, speak, and decide together—with respect, empathy, and care — we create something powerful. Charged by the power of their diverse backgrounds, the people agreed on a Charter (External link) with 10 principles on how to rethink Europe’s democracy. To make it stronger, more resilient and make everyone's lives better. The Charter shows the power of a travelling assembly, the power of participation without populism or polarization, and the power of government “with” the people instead of just “for” the people.
But for this power to last, we need more than one-time events.
We need something permanent. A structure that doesn’t disappear when a project ends or when recommendations are handed over. An assembly that belongs to everyone, where people like you and me can continue to shape the world we live in. An assembly that can follow up on their decisions to make their demands a reality. An assembly that sows democratic seeds wherever it goes. An assembly that helps you become active wherever you are. An assembly that connects assemblies on all scales into one big democratic movement across borders.
This is not just for experts or politicians. This is for you.
Can you do more? Here are other ways to help:
