The Travelling Assembly
Towards a permanent Peoples' Assembly for Europe
the Youth Council for Athens Project
The Athens Youth Council will be triggered by the Democratic Odyssey assembly. It will be composed of those randomly selected young assembly members who are between 16 and 28 and willing to continue to meet for 6 months. It will will serve as an active advisory body to the Mayor and the Municipality of Athens, ensuring that the perspectives and needs of younger generations are integrated into local governance and decision-making processes. A young founders’ committee will steer the process in Greece in cooperation with the Municipality of Athens. The Youth Council will provide valuable input on a range of topics; among others, education reform, youth employment opportunities, environmental sustainability, digital innovation, mental health services, and the promotion of social inclusion and equality. Their insights can help shape policies that directly address the challenges faced today by young people. This project offers a replicable model for other countries, showcasing how youth participation can be effectively institutionalized within municipal structures to promote a more inclusive and representative governance, while it sets a precedent for innovative youth-led governance at different levels. It will continue to work in close cooperation with the democratic odyssey.
