Change? (Athens spirit)

We need to start with the governance of AI, at every level, including the EU AI office which must reflect human values, local wisdom, sustainability, and social accountability—not only technocratic control. Beyond AI, bolstering tech for good should not be restricted to acting through regulations that control or ban hate speech and protect democratic values. Europe must invest in platforms and processes that empower citizens to critically engage with information and push back against manipulation, also collaborating with reputable independent platforms. To counter extremism, we should develop checklists and standards controlled democratically. Checklists would indicate positive and negative actions and behaviours, focusing on areas such as corruption and manipulation. Similarly, the environmental effect of digital technologies should be limited.
