The Travelling Assembly
Towards a permanent Peoples' Assembly for Europe
What of Athens? What next?
Which conversations did Athens bring about the most? What was discussed as an Assembly and what does this tell us about this collective journey? We ask you to reflect on the Full Report (External link) from the DO first Assembly meeting in Athens, particularly to ask you what you think we should collectively continue to discuss ahead of our next Florence meeting!
You can add a comment to this debate and interact with other Assembly Members, as well as members of the general public!

Having focused Athens on the theme of crisis, cuna first idea that comes to mind is to define for which crises to resort to citizens' assemblies. There are 3 macro-types of crises that can be identified: 1) ongoing crises, such as wars, climate or migration crises, or the gender gap problem; 2) predictable crises, such as socio-economic and financial (sub-prime) or health crises, where specific indicators provide predictive signals; and 3) unpredictable crises, such as wars that erupt suddenly (Russia-Ukraine) or health emergencies (covid and the like). Can citizen involvement be useful for all of these? in what structuring? with what timing? In addition to these, I would include a fourth typology, which is post-crisis: what did the management of the XY crisis teach us? what should be preserved and taken as a model? what instead needs to be considered in the future? Always maintaining the accountability of government structures. Thank you, Valentina
